Craig Dyke and Shawn Phillips shaking hands in the above picture. Craig Dyke and his family with friends had Shawn over for his own personal house party on July 28th, 2011 up in Moose Lake, MN at his lake shore cabin, which by the way has been in the family since the 1940's.

Now that I touched on the end of the day lets start way back at the beginning of the day in Bloomington, MN and roughly around noon I arrived at Arlo Hennings home where Shawn had his tour Bus parked and up on stilts in Arlo's driveway.

When I first arrived I said hello to Arlo and Shawn and discussed what the day might hold in store for us concerning the days adventures like drive time and my strategies for filming and getting some photos of Shawn doing various things like getting his bus ready for the long haul up to Moose Lake and things of that sort throughout the day.
We were almost done getting the bus ready for the trip and while inside I was talking with Shawn and just asking a few questions like "Why do you do house concerts while other artists do not?"

His reply was simple and straight to the point, "It's my job" and then he went on to tell me that one artist in particular, no names mentioned told Shawn that they don't do house concerts because they don't want to deal with the autographing and taking pictures with their fans, Shawn feels that this too is part of the job. Personally I feel very lucky and I'm sure that most of his fans feel the same way, we are all very happy that Shawn does all those things for us after each concert. Thanks Shawn for all that you have given us in music and in life.

At this point in time we are all ready to climb aboard and settle in to hit the road to begin our journey heading North to Moose Lake.

After we were all buckled in and heading out of Arlo's driveway Shawn's guidance system told us how to get to I494 EAST, but, Arlo felt like TOMTOM didn't give the directions right so he piped up and told Shawn how to get to the freeway.. lol. then after so many miles to merge onto 35E North to reach our destination of Moose Lake, MN. later while on the road Arlo turned to me and yelled out Hello to all of Shawn's FAN's,

I just had to include this photo of Shawn's favorite on the road CANDY.

After 3 hours on the road we started seeing signs for Moose Lake. Sorry about the blurry photo, lol
We head on down this long dirt road to finally come to our spot where our Hosts were waiting for us.
They had meet us earlier at a gas station in town so that way they could guide us to their Moose Lake Cabin

Once we got there and the tour bus was parked everyone started grabbing equipment from Shawn to bring into the house, look how proud Craig is carrying Shawn's guitar.lol

Lots of equipment to bring in, 7 guitars, a guitar stand, the BOSE sound system and his electronic cube.
Which will be coined from here on in as the eCUBE......lol

Everyone was milling around waiting for the concert to begin talking and I was introducing myself to everyone and asking questions and taking pictures and video taping this that and the other thing, plus our hosts were so nice as they supplied lots of great food and beverages for everyone.

 This is Craig's mother

Craig Dyke, I was interviewing Craig here and he was telling us about his cabin and how it has been in the family since the 1940's and how every summer he would listen to Shawn's music for hours on end while at this cabin, the whole cabin is empowered with the great vibs and love of Shawn's music.

Home Sweet Cabin, this just shows how much Love has been put into this cabin

This is Craig's wife Cheri Dyke, the hostess with the mostess
We cant thank Cherie and her family enough for their wonderful smiling faces and always wanting to make sure that our every needs were meet while we were there. Thank you all very much for that
We all listened to Shawn play his songs and he introduced to us some new pieces which incorporated several layers of real time recorded and looped arrangement's using his many guitars including a brand new GODIN BASE guitar. After the final song entitled "everything she gives me" a song that Shawn wrote for his wife Juliette, which Shawn tells us that all the lyrics and music flowed into and channeled out in a very short amount of time simultaneously. Craig Dyke stood up as well as the others and gave Shawn a standing ovation and Craig was heard saying to Shawn after that last song about that song was the one word that described everything about that song was Celebratory and Shawn's reaction to that one word is shown below. That is what makes an artist time on stage so worth while, to get a fan to feel so strongly about a song to achieve this type of reaction is what it is all about.

Another very pleased fan for the night after the show, sorry I know this gentleman is related to the Dyke's but not sure how, maybe an Uncle or Grandfather.
Here is more of the family clapping with a standing ovation for Shawn
After the show Shawn went out to the bus and changed and then we all helped pack his equipment away for the night.

This little lady, Paula, made sure my glass was never empty. Thank you very much for all of your enthusiasm and help through out the evening.

This is a group photo I took with all of them together.
Craig Dyke, if you read this can you send me the names of everyone pictured here and I will include them in this blog, first names only will be displayed.

Once Shawn changed and all equipment was safely stowed away Shawn finally grabbed some delicious homemade food and ate all the while telling us stories of his sea rescue efforts and the situations he has had to deal with to save lives out at sea.

Shawn talks about his sea faring rescues and grabs a bit to eat.
Shawn is describing the vastness of the size of a oil tanker here.
Describing the effects of the waves out at sea and how difficult it is to master the rhythm of the sea swells during a sea rescue to transport the wounded person from their ship onto the ship that will be taking the hurt passenger to shore. That is Shawn's job is to get the person from the other ship to his ship. Swells could be 20 or 40 feet in height and Shawn has to lower or raise the person in this basket thingy that is on a wench and bring that hurt person on board all the while preventing the person from smashing into the other ship or his while the sea is heaving to and fro with those high swells.

Shawn lets his fans get together with him after the show to take some long awaited and abated moments and photos with Shawn. Craig and Cherie Dyke are sitting with Shawn.

Craig Dyke went out to the bus during all of this and personally Thanked Shawn for all of his wonderful music and for playing a great show.

Just a cool shot I thought

It was a most enjoyable evening that night with the Dyke family. They had a tremendous time with Shawn helping him setup, listening to his music and now they will all have this moment to remember and be able to look back on it for the rest of their lives. I thank Shawn and Arlo for allowing me to be a part of it and I thank the Dyke's for allowing me into their lives and home to record this event for them. After a few hours of Shawn telling stories we finally headed out the door and hunkered down for the long haul back to Bloomington, MN.

We said our goodbyes to the Dyke's  To view this VLOG :

It was a long and a quiet ride that night, very tired from the long days journey in the life of a musical GOD, lol..
A random on the road VLOG as we headed back to Bloomington:

Once we got back to Bloomington Shawn parked the bus in Arlo's driveway once again.

Then Shawn and I jumped out and I helped Shawn place the lift pads on the cement so Shawn could get the tour bus lifted up and leveled out, Shawn has to do this so that way all of the internal appliances are level and that way they continue to work. I got my camera equipment out from inside the bus and said my good byes to Shawn and Arlo and headed home. This will forever be etched into my mind as one of the BEST days of my life.
